Green NGOs against Mellieha Bay development.

Many Green Non Government Organisations are calling on the government and the planning authorities to block the building of 98 bungalows, including pools , car parks, a restaurant and a welcome area. The development area is situated near the Mellieha Bay Hotel and is outside the development zone. The project is set to cover 5,400 square metres on protected garigue and trees. The organisations are want the development to be turned down.

The Mellieha Local Council is organising Mothers Day celebrations at the Mellieha primary school hall on the 9th of May 2008. The varied programme which will start at 7.30pm is to be presented by Eileen Montesin. Every one is invited to attend.

Life Force in Mellieha

The Sedqa Agency together with the Mellieha Local Council is to organise a Life Force activity at the Parish Square starting at 7.00pm on Saturday 3rd May2008. The activity will deal with todays problems dealing with the young, including alcohol, drugs,violence and others. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Man falls in well

A 49 year old man from Mellieha fell from a height of one storey yesterday morning at Tat-Tomna while working on an empty well . An ambulance was called to take him to hospital where it was reported that he was not in a life threatening situation. Police are investigating.

New councillors sworn in

The seven councillors for Mellieha were sworn in during a ceremony at the President’s Palace in Valletta yesterday afternoon. The local council election was held on the 8th March together with the general election. The new councillors for Mellieha are: Robert Cutajar, (Mayor), Emvin Bartolo, Hilary Fenech and Patrick Cutajar, who represent the Nationalists Party. John Francis Buttigieg, Joseph Azzopardi and Clayton Bartolo for the Malta Labour Party. The term of office is three years.
